In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, Anthony Joshua reached out to Jake Paul with sincere messages just days after their intense boxing match. This comes as a surprise, considering the recent tragedy that struck Joshua's life, leaving him in mourning.
Joshua, a former heavyweight champion, knocked out Paul in their Netflix-featured fight in Miami. However, tragedy struck soon after when Joshua's close friends, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, passed away in a car crash while traveling in Nigeria. Despite his personal loss, Joshua found the strength to connect with Paul, offering heartfelt condolences.
Paul's Most Valuable Promotions paid tribute to the late friends during an event in Puerto Rico, a gesture that Joshua deeply appreciated. Joshua's messages to Paul and MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian showcased his respect and humanity in the face of adversity.
"They had some tremendous exchanges," Bidarian shared with SunSport. "Anthony Joshua was a true gentleman. He sent us some very kind messages, and we recognized the deep respect he has for Sina and Latz as fellow human beings."
Joshua, now 36, continues to honor his fallen friends through social media posts and videos, keeping their memory alive as he grieves their tragic deaths.
But here's where it gets controversial... While Joshua is still mourning, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, believes the former champion will return to the ring, fighting in their honor. Meanwhile, Paul, at 29, is medically suspended until cleared by a physician. However, Bidarian revealed that Paul could resume sparring by June and potentially fight again as early as August.
"Jake studied AJ and found his weaknesses," Bidarian explained. "He believes no opponent can strike fear into him now."
And this is the part most people miss... Despite Paul's confidence, he has been honest about his fears, stating he doesn't want to fight David Benavidez. But other than that, he's ready to take on all comers.
Bidarian was in London to announce a deal between MVP and Sky Sports, bringing boxing back to the forefront. Caroline Dubois and Terri Harper will headline an event on April 5 at the Olympia in Kensington.
