Assassin's Creed Shadows on Switch 2: A Smooth Ride or a Bumpy One?
The highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows has arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2, but for some players, the experience has been anything but smooth. Multiple reports on message boards and social media indicate that the game frequently crashes, causing frustration and disrupting gameplay.
One player, DrLukeyy, encountered a string of 4 crashes in quick succession while attempting a mission, prompting them to wait for a patch. Another player, dennishylau, described the crash frequency as 'unplayable', especially in handheld mode. The sentiment is echoed by ApprehensiveLie8032, who mentioned 10 crashes in 20 minutes, and Safe-Reputation-2737, who experienced crashes every 5 minutes.
The situation is so dire that some players are considering returning the game. stevenandthecg, for instance, expressed desperation, noting that the game crashes every 2 minutes and that Ubisoft's support is downplaying the issue as a console problem.
Despite the widespread issues, some players have found workarounds. Central suggests playing in handheld mode with the game on the internal hard drive, while andrsperdomo reports no improvement after installing the game directly on the console.
Critics have also noted frame-pacing issues, recommending handheld mode for a better experience. However, the review phase saw fewer crash reports.
Ubisoft has acknowledged the problem and plans to release a patch in mid-December, addressing some technical issues. Until then, players are left with a game that, for some, is unplayable due to frequent crashes.
