His dealership is owed $20,000 by Transport Canada for rebates applied to EVs sold in 2024. Despite Woods' persistent efforts, including written correspondence and documentation, the department initially refused to reimburse, citing the program's end date. This led to a frustrating back-and-forth, with Woods eventually receiving a letter acknowledging an error in the submission form.
This situation is not an isolated incident. Huw Williams, a spokesperson for the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, reveals a broader pattern. Many dealerships have submitted claims, only to face rejection and further delays. The process, where dealers must 'front the money on behalf of the federal government,' has raised concerns about the government's responsiveness to historical problems. Williams emphasizes the need for Transport Canada to address these outstanding reimbursements, especially with the new program's launch and the allocation of $2.3 billion.
