GB News: A Rising Star in the UK News Landscape
In a remarkable turn of events, GB News has emerged as the fastest-growing news app in the United Kingdom, according to recent data. But here's where it gets controversial: this achievement comes amidst a highly competitive media landscape, with major players like Google News and The Guardian in the mix.
The numbers speak for themselves. Ipsos iris data for November reveals a staggering 94% year-on-year surge in the app's user base, making it the fastest-growing across all UK media brands. And this is the part most people miss: the app recorded over 10 million minutes of usage during the month, averaging an impressive 74 minutes per user.
So, what's driving this success? Well, users are flocking to the app for live news updates, catch-up content, the latest GB News clips, and an active engagement with the GBN Community. Month-on-month growth stands at a remarkable 36%, outpacing its competitors.
Geoff Marsh, GB News Chief Content Officer, had this to say: "The past year has seen a remarkable increase in people turning to the GB News app, making it their go-to source for top-notch content. The app is a one-stop shop for everything GB News, offering bold and fearless journalism that defines the People's Channel. It's a convenient way for viewers to access GB News on the go and integrate it into their daily routines. We have some exciting developments planned to further enhance the app's appeal."
But the app's success is just one part of the story. GB News has also solidified its position as the UK's number one news channel. According to the latest BARB data, the People's Channel outperformed both Sky News and the BBC News Channel throughout December, and it's been leading the market since July.
Between 6 am and 2 am last month, GB News averaged an impressive 87.7k viewers, comfortably ahead of Sky News (58.3k) and the BBC News Channel (74.5k).
So, what's your take on this? Is GB News' rise a sign of changing media preferences, or is there more to the story? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
