Love Island Australia champions Yana Marks (21) and Kye Lambert (22) opened up about the moment they realized their on‑again, off‑again dynamic could actually work, even after years of drama. The pair entered the villa as exes with doubts about rekindling their romance, but the experience forced them to address issues they’d long been dodging.
“When Lacey left, we thought maybe we could give it another shot,” Yana explains. “At first it felt safe because we know each other so well. It was comforting. And then, slowly, it grew from there.”
Throughout the competition, the couple learned crucial lessons about communicating under pressure in the villa’s constraints. “You have to have those conversations and confront the problems,” Yana adds. She also admits she was taken by surprise when Kye made a dramatic entrance back into the house, noting, “Knowing Kye, I didn’t expect him to come into the villa. He’s never been the type to chase the spotlight or social media, so seeing him walk in after everything we’d been through left me in shock.”
Kye agrees that their relationship had its share of turbulence, but he was determined to repair what had frayed. For Yana, reuniting with her ex brought up unresolved feelings. “We broke up on toxic terms—not terrible, but very toxic,” she says. Kye concurs, acknowledging the highs and lows they endured, especially toward the end.
Love Island pushed them to confront conversations they’d previously avoided in the real world. “Outside, we would block each other and dodge the tough talks,” Yana recalls. “In the villa, there’s no escape. You’re stuck together, and that forced us to talk things through. That’s what helped us finally resolve things.”
For Kye, the turning point came during a hotel stay, when he realized what he had lost and what he truly wanted. “That’s when I knew I wanted Yana back. Winning her back was the hardest part,” he reflects.
Since leaving the villa, the couple hasn’t spent much time apart. “We actually haven’t,” they reveal. The Sydney-based duo walked away with public support as the series’ favorite couple, securing the win according to viewer votes. However, the prize wasn’t straightforward: a twist earlier in the season left them with only $30,000 of the $50,000 total. Earlier in the season, contestant Dylan became the first Love Island participant to walk away with $20,000 he had allegedly siphoned from the prize pool.
Despite the cash shortfall, the moment of triumph and the strengthened relationship brought emotional payoff as host Sophie Monk announced their victory to a moved audience.
