Sweden vs Czechia 31:23 (17:13)
While Sweden was favored, the Czech team surprised everyone by taking an early 2:0 lead, thanks to goals from Dominika Zachová and Kamila Kordovská. However, the Swedes quickly found their rhythm, launching a 5:0 run, capitalizing on Czechia's missed shots and turnovers. This early comeback set the stage for a thrilling match.
Sweden maintained their lead for a significant portion of the game, but Czechia, fueled by Charlotte Cholevová's goals, managed to equalize at 10:10. This is where the game really got interesting! A timely timeout called by Sweden's coach, Tomas Axnér, helped his team regroup. They responded with their own 3:0 surge, regaining control. Jenny Carlson, who had just recovered from an injury, made a notable impact, and Clara Lerby scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half, giving Sweden a solid four-goal lead going into halftime.
But here's where it gets controversial... The second half started with a tense standoff, with neither team scoring for the first five minutes. Then, Veronika Malá's goals propelled Czechia to a 3:0 run, narrowing the gap to just one goal, 16:17. A crucial factor in keeping Czechia in the game was the outstanding performance of Sabrina Novotná, the 25-year-old goalkeeper, who was named the hummel Player of the Match. She made an impressive 17 saves during the match.
However, Sweden's Johanna Bundsen also made her presence felt, helping her team restore a four-goal lead in the 47th minute, with the score at 25:21. The game then saw another scoring drought, lasting five minutes, before Lerby broke the deadlock with a 7m shot, further extending Sweden's lead.
In the final stages, Czechia seemed to lose momentum, and Sweden dominated the court. Bundsen finished with 12 saves and a 34% saving efficiency. Ten of her teammates contributed to the score, with Lerby and Emma Lindkvist leading the charge with six goals each.
